Volunteers are always welcomed in any project done at Fischer Pond. This year the Fischer Pond group at Cascade High has decided to focus on making group outings easier by adding a permanent barbeque feature as well as replenishing the pond's surroundings with many plants and trees. Thus far Fischer Pond has discussed plans for the barbeque, planted over one hundred trees, and several hundred flowers and shrubs. In the fall of 2010 the group and several volunteers, including neighboring Elementary students, planted the many donated trees, shrubs, and flowers as a part of Water Awareness Day. In order to prepare for Water Awareness Day, the group took a few days removing weeds and containing rose bushes. The fall of 2010 was also consumed with the maintaining of the grounds and aquarium. On many occasions, the grass was raked, giving the pond a clean look. One of the Fischer Pond groups goal's for this coming spring is to design a sign that will be located at the kiosk near the river. We are hoping to include information about the pond and remind visitors to clean up after themselves since it is a volunteer project. This coming spring we also hope to finish the permanent barbeque structure plans and begin construction on this project. By adding this structure, we are hoping to bring more visitors to the pond. The convenience of the barbeque will hopefully encourage people' s visits to be reoccurring. The structure will include a propane barbeque with a preparation area, free of cost. Please be aware that the Fischer Pond project is on going and very time consuming. Although the school year is about ten months long, the Advanced Biology class is only every other day and the project is hard to keep up through the summer. The members work hard to do their best, but are also consumed with other school work an activities outside of academics. |
